Aeronautical Engineers Australia can perform a number of testing procedures to confirm the performance of a material, repair, modification or whole aircraft system.

Flammability Testing

AEA can perform burn testing to .853 and .855 requirements for FAR 23, 25, 27, or 29 aircraft. This is a mandatory requirement for aircraft furnishings, insulation and all composite materials. To ensure accurate results we condition the samples for 24 hours in a temperature and humidity controlled cell prior to testing.

For the test, 3 samples of 3" by 12" are required and if it is a composite material, 3 samples in both the warp and weft direction are needed. The samples sent to us should be accompanied by the intended application, location in the aircraft, and aircraft type.

Please download the Flammability Information Form and submit it with your samples for testing.

Structural Testing

Structural testing is conducted to ensure that the loads placed on the aircraft in flight and on the ground can be effectively carried by the structure. These verify the independent calculations performed before the test. Testing may be destructive (ultimate load capacity) or may use non-destructive testing methods.

AEA has designed and built numerous testing jigs and procedures for a range of items from retractable undercarriage systems to transport category composite control surfaces.

Flight Testing

Flight testing is used to validate the results of an analysis and is a requirement for most certification procedures. AEA is authorised to perform flight testing and issue flight test schedules and support the testing with experienced engineers to act as observers.

Performance Testing

Performance testing shows the true performance of an aircraft and results may, in some cases, differ significantly from Flight Manual figures. This testing can enable AEA to issue revised takeoff and landing distances after modifications have been made to the aircraft to ensure that the most can be gained from your aircraft.

Weight Control

AEA is a CASA approved Weight and Balance Authority and can issue weight certification on fixed and rotary-wing aircraft from ultralights to airliners. With our mobile equipment our engineers can weigh your aircraft anywhere in Australia. We are also able to weigh aircraft on short notice, and can offer a rapid turnaround to meet your deadlines.

We can also develop and approve loading systems to suit your requirements and have a range of standard trimsheets available for purchase.

To book your aircraft for a reweigh or for a quote, please contact your nearest AEA office.
